Craig F. Thomas is vice president and senior economist for The PNC Financial Services Group. He is responsible for contributing to PNC's regional economic analysis and forecasting for the 13 states and major metropolitan areas, including the District of Columbia, that comprise PNC’s core economic footprint. In addition, Thomas focuses on economic issues related to residential and commercial real estate nationwide. Thomas also assists with the analysis and forecasting of U.S. economic and financial market conditions and prospects.

Thomas joined PNC in 2009 from Citi Property Investors, a part of Citigroup, Inc., where he served as director of research, leading market research in North America, Europe and Asia, and participating in the Investment and Valuation Committees. In this role, Thomas initiated a proprietary research platform blending real estate fundamentals, economic indicators and capital market concepts. His professional experience also includes director of research & research systems for CB Richard Ellis/Torto Wheaton Research and director of regional models for Moody's Economy.com.

Thomas is also author of the book, The Econosphere (FT Press, Nov 2009).

Thomas earned a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration, a bachelor of arts degree in Economics and a master of science degree in Agriculture and Resource Economics at the University of Maine.

Dr. Sam Thomas, PhD. is a member of the Banking and Finance faculty at the Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western Reserve University. He teaches in Weatherhead's MBA, MSM, and Undergraduate programs.

His research and consulting activities focus on the practice of investment science and valuation. His notable expertise is in integrating the global macro business cycle with practices in corporate finance strategy and investments strategy. Dr. Thomas is active in the research and development activities of financial advisors and money managers and is known for his ability to materially integrate academic research with product development.

His recent projects incorporate innovations in the design of life-long portfolio construction and portfolio draw-downs that integrate asset allocation with phases of the business cycle in a manner that is compatible with investment objectives. Dr. Thomas is a frequent contributor to conferences of institutional investor groups around the world and has served as a senior research fellow at several research and development institutes.

Dr. Thomas designed India's first monthly consumer confidence index and several other survey based macro indices. Dr. Thomas received his MA and PhD degrees in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, his MBA from the College of William and Mary, and his MA (Hons) in Economics from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science. He has has won six teaching excellence awards at the Weatherhead School of Management and serves as an advisor or board member to several entities run by his alumni.
